Nearly two years ago, Taylor Raether joined Uplevel Coworking as a private office user. Fellow members can connect with Taylor at the occasional event (like our ever-popular Work Week Wind Downs!) or on our private Discord server. When asked about the Fair Housing Center of Greater Madison, who strives to create fair housing in Wisconsin, Taylor had quite a bit to share.

In short, the Fair Housing Center of Greater Madison is a satellite office of the Metropolitan Milwaukee Fair Housing Council, which focuses on accomplishing these two goals:

  • Combatting illegal housing discrimination
  • Creating and maintaining racially and economically integrated housing patterns

The organization assists residents who have experienced issues related to illegal discrimination, harassment, or segregation in the state of Wisconsin.

About the Fair Housing Council

The Fair Housing Center of Greater Madison is a satellite office of the Metropolitan Milwaukee Fair Housing Council (MMFHC). MMFHC is a nonprofit dedicated to combatting illegal housing discrimination and creating and maintaining racially and economically integrated housing patterns throughout the state of Wisconsin. The organization assists residents who have experienced issues related to illegal discrimination, harassment or segregation in our housing market.

Their list of programs and services is exhaustive. It includes case intake and counseling, investigative services, outreach and education, professional support to government agencies, and fair lending. MMFHC serves Milwaukee, Washington, Waukesha, Ozaukee, Dane, Outagamie, Brown, Winnebago, and Calumet Counties, and conducts out-of-service-area activities as well.

Who is Taylor?

Taylor Raether is the team leader for the Madison office. In her role as Program Services Coordinator, she leads fair housing presentations and educational activities across the state. She also recruits and manages volunteers and members; develops and maintains relationships with local organizations; connects housing providers, housing consumers, and service providers with the Fair Housing Center’s services; and coordinates fair housing investigations. (Whew, that’s a lot!)

Outside of creating fair housing in Wisconsin, Taylor loves travelling, hiking, foraging, and baking sourdough bread. She graduated from UW-Madison and has lived in Madison for 7 years with her partner and their two cats.

Why Did Taylor Join Uplevel Coworking?

When asked why she decided to join Uplevel Coworking, Taylor was quick to answer. “The space provides everything I need to do my job well, including a private office, printer, conference room, and free coffee,” Taylor said. “Uplevel is more affordable than other coworking spaces in the area too.”

Taylor is also the only staff member at who works in the Madison office. “It’s great to be part of a coworking space where I can network with other organizations and professionals,” she added.

Overall, we’re excited to celebrate Taylor’s upcoming 2-year anniversary in our space. And that she’ll be here for another year! If, like Taylor, you or your organization or could use a private office, learn more about our spaces or book a tour!
